The last sketchbook assignment! What I did here was I created a screen, overlay, and two different color dodge layers, as well as having a normal layer for drawing over top of the photo. Before I started drawing, I changed the curves and adjusted the hue of the photo so more emphasis was on the yellows giving it the warm feeling that I associate with spring.
On the drawing layers, I re-emphasized the depth and texture of the ice, added highlights and low lights to the leaves/twigs/ice then created the magical looking swirls coming out of the bend in the twig. I chose to just use lines instead of adding pictures since with this image I could only imagine either a little fairy skating on the ice or bent over the leaves and I felt my drawing skills at that would be sub-par. However, I feel like the organic lines gives the same feel that a little fairy creature would since they’re whimsical and yet subtle.

This is my animation, I decided to go on the creepy route since those are immediately what I think about when I think of gif’s for some reason.

Here are my anaglyph images!

So for this one, I used the same image, only I copied it and then went through the same steps as before. However, I’m concerned I need two different pictures (with a slight change in perspective) to make this happen properly or if I am able to do it with only one.
We shall see!

Here is my test of making an anaglyph image! I don’t have 3D glasses but I think this would work just dandy. Soon I will post my own 3D image :)

And this happens on accident while I’m working on my project! just thought it was kind of neat and wanted to share.

Assignment 3

So, I realized during our work period today that the length of the poem that I originally wanted to do was totally insane. Now, my piece will last for 49 seconds = 588 frames to do. I calculated that I’m supposed to do 84 frames per day in order to get done on time… We’ll see how well this calculation goes!

Currently I have completed singing my poem and a few frames in two portions of the poem since I didn’t like what I started this morning… It’s a start. This project is going to be retro-scoped with some collaged images. I’m also thinking that I will write the words along with the animation since my annunciation in some parts is hard to hear.

My Poem if a found poem that I made from Sylvia Plath’s Bitter Strawberries:

All morning in the strawberry, strawberry field

We heard the woman say the draft is past

Bomb them off the map, off the map

Her eyes swam with terror, don’t pleaded the little girl

I’ve got a fella old enough to go and if anything should happen, if anything should happen to him

The taste of strawberries thick and sour.

Response to ‘GroupThink’ Article

What does the article suggest is the strength behind the creative thinking process?

The article suggests that constructive criticism and exposure to different ideas and people are two of the strengths that can have an exponential effect for brainstorming effectively. We can see this by the example of Building 20 where people of different professions were scattered randomly yet came up with their brilliant ideas because of this disorganization. Also, we are given the example of the tests done within a classroom - one group told to be critical of ideas presented, one to build off of one another (no mention of critique) and the rest of the groups told nothing whatsoever, the results being the ‘debate’ group creatively exceeded everyone else.

I can agree with the article on these strengths since I have travelled and lived in many different places and have met a wide variety of people as well as the way my family and a few teachers/friends from high school have assisted me in projects. I feel that I am able to see objectives from different perspectives which gives me more choices when completing a task. Since I’m somewhat of a perfectionist I want to hear what others have to say about an idea or something I have finished in case there is something lacking that I didn’t see/think about.

How could we improve this in education?

I feel the way we could improve this in education is to start back in elementary by having the teacher’s walk around and ask students how they could come up with a better idea. In theory, over time, the students will become more comfortable with giving their opinions, receiving feed back then modifying the original thought. Since we usually remember and practice the ‘life lessons’ we learnt from when we were kids, I think that this would lead to the children growing up and putting their social education to use.

As for the interaction, I think the clubs, sports teams, after school activities are the best thing we can hope for since they give cause for people to meet, talk, compete, ect, with others they wouldn’t have met in their own social bubble.

Images for Assignment 3

The first image is supposed to convey minatory (fear or threatening), the second is supposed to convey mundane and the third is supposed to convey strange.

If anyone has any feed back on what I could do/change that would be greatly appreciated!
